Why You Should Attend A My Gateway Recruitment Day

13 June 2019

My Gateway will hold its annual Recruitment Days later this year to help young job seekers in the next phase of their lives.

These events, held this September, October and November, are a great opportunity for young people who are in school or have graduated to meet with the My Gateway team and discuss apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities that are available now and also for the upcoming year.

Last year, over 120 job seekers attended these Recruitment Days, with 84 currently placed in an apprenticeship or traineeship, or they are in our pool of referable candidates. For the 2020 intake, My Gateway is preparing for approximately 180-200 job vacancies. These jobs are mostly to start in between December, 2019, through to March, 2020, which is why attending one of our upcoming Recruitment Days is so important.
You could find the apprenticeship or traineeship you’ve been looking for at one of our Recruitment Days!

The types of jobs that will be on offer include:

Apprenticeships:

  • Automotive
  • Construction
  • Civil construction
  • Electrical
  • Horticulture
  • Metals and engineering

Traineeships:

  • Events management
  • Finance
  • Library services
  • Office administration
  • Parts interpreter

How it works

On the day, those who have registered and attend will undergo our selection and assessment process. This includes:

  • Completing an application form
  • Completing an aptitude test relevant to the trade/job of your interest
  • Having a one-on-one interview with one of our Field or Recruitment team staff members

My Gateway’s Internal Recruiter, Aiza Franco, says it is in this interview that the candidates can really shine.

“We want to hear about why they are interested in a certain career path and what skills and attributes they can bring forward,” Aiza explained.

Aiza’s best advice for those attending on the day is simple – come prepared!

“Bring school reports, any certificates and references,” she said.

“We want candidates to think of examples where they demonstrate skills (practical or interpersonal) that are desirable for the position they are applying for.”
