Apprentices Grateful for Scholarship Support

08 February 2024

Three My Gateway apprentices have each been awarded a significant boost to their placements, through the Bert Evans Scholarship.

The scholarships are an initiative of the NSW Department of Education and provide significant financial support to apprentices all across the state.

Our recipients are:

Brendan Syron (hosted to Stowe Australia)

Lachlan Durham (hosted to Camden Council)

Lenny Hornby (hosted to Eirinn Gas & Water Pty Ltd)

Recipient and horticulture apprentice, Lachlan, is grateful for this support and the positive effect it will have on his future.

“The impact this scholarship has on me is that I can reach goals that I have set for myself quicker, as well as having the reassurance that I will achieve those goals,” Lachlan said.

Plumbing apprentice, Lenny, has already noticed how the scholarship has simplified things, mainly when it comes to tools.

“It makes work easier as I have everything I need and don’t have to borrow tools from workmates,” Lenny said.

This scholarship has also had a large impact on mature-age electrical apprentice, Brendan. Starting your apprenticeship later in life poses unique challenges, especially financially. Brendan is now able to overcome or work through with less stress due to the support he is receiving.

“I am so grateful to receive this scholarship because it has allowed me to use the funds towards purchasing additional resources e.g. tools and textbooks to better assist me throughout my apprenticeship. I have a young family which comes with a lot of financial commitments that always need to take priority,” Brendan said.

We would like to congratulate these apprentices again on being selected to receive this scholarship.
