Congratulations to Corie Williams on finishing his apprenticeship last month! The carpenter is officially a qualified tradesman, having completed his Certificate IV in Building and Construction, while undertaking his on-the-job training with host business, Mainbrace Constructions.
Corie has shared some of what he has learnt the past four years, as well as some of his hopes for his future in the industry.
How does it feel to have completed your apprenticeship?
I feel very relieved and excited to see what the future holds for myself.
What are some of the main skills you have learned?
I’ve gained a large variety of skills to all aspects of building, as I’ve been lucky enough to have experience in both residential and commercial building projects.
What are you most proud of achieving throughout your apprenticeship?
I’m most proud of completing my Certificate IV in Building and Construction, on top of working six days a week last year, but overall just completing my apprenticeship [in general].
What have you enjoyed most about your apprenticeship?
Just the mateship. I’ve been very lucky to have worked with a lot of good people over the four years. [It] makes work more enjoyable when you work with good fellas.
How would describe your support you have received from your host, Mainbrace Constructions and My Gateway?
Mainbrace has been amazing, firstly for giving me the opportunity to make the change to the commercial game. Everyone that I’ve had the chance to work with so far have always been supportive and helpful. A really great company to work for!
My Gateway has made my apprenticeship a much smoother process. Always helpful and supportive, and would highly recommend them to anyone thinking of completing a apprenticeship or traineeship.
What is next for you now that are you a qualified carpenter?
Working for Mainbrace as a carpenter is my next step and I look forward to seeing what the future holds.
What advice would you give to anyone considering taking on an apprenticeship?
Do it! You won’t regret it. I haven’t since I started my apprenticeship. Makes it much easier waking up and going to work when you love what you do.
