Wage Subsidy for Employing Apprentices & Trainees Extended

11 March 2021

The Federal Government has extended the Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements wage subsidy.

The subsidy was originally announced in October 2020, as another means to support businesses dealing with the financial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The subsidy was capped at 100,000 placements, including both apprentices and trainees, nation-wide. However the Government revealed earlier this week that the cap has been removed and will be driven by demand.

Through the subsidy, any business or Group Training Organisation that engages an apprentice/trainee between October 5, 2020 and March 31, 2022 may be eligible for a subsidy of 50 per cent of wages paid for a 12-month period from the date of commencement, to a maximum of $7,000 per quarter.

According to SmartCompany.com.au the extension and removal of the cap is expected to generate a further 70,000 placements across Australia.
