Students Gain Invaluable Skills in Construction Course

10 December 2020

Throughout Term 4, a group of Year 10 students participated in a civil construction taster course.

Students from Airds High School, Ashcroft High School, Campbelltown Performing Arts High School, Liverpool Boys High School and Thomas Reddall High School spent two days per week, over a five week period, learning about construction at TAFE NSW Macquarie Fields.

The course was aimed at students with an interest in taking on a school based apprenticeship in the construction industry. The students completed four accredited units specific to construction. This has given them a head-start as they move into the next phase of their lives.

TAFE NSW teachers, Christian White and Steven Denholm, said courses like this are invaluable to young people wanting trade careers.

“Courses like this are important to provide direction for young people, and show students the alternative pathways that one can take as they start their careers.”

Many of the students are now undertaking work experience at some of My Gateway’s host businesses. Others are pursuing job offers to begin their apprenticeships. We wish each of the students luck as they start their trade careers!

We would like to thank the following for supporting this course: TAFE NSW Macquarie Fields, Airds High School, Ashcroft High School, Campbelltown Performing Arts High School, Liverpool Boys High School and Thomas Reddall High School.
