School Based Trainee an ‘Asset’ to Host Business

24 November 2020

School based trainee, Libby Clapson, is making a strong contribution in her role at Campbelltown City Council.

The Year 11 student works one day a week at Council in the People & Performance team, while undertaking a Certificate III in Business Administration.

Working one day a week can pose different challenges to young trainees, but Libby’s can-do attitude has seen her progress well. It’s this attitude that has impressed Libby’s supervisor, Emily Bozinovski, the most.

“Libby’s attitude has to be commended, she is very mature minded and has a great work ethic that makes her really stand out to not only our team, but other sections within Council,” Emily said.

Libby’s traineeship started in January 2020 and faced a major challenge when COVID-19 began to have an impact on the local workforce. Her traineeship was placed on hold but it was during this period that Libby’s work ethic really shone through. Libby stayed on top of her coursework and kept in regular contact with her team at Council.

“When Libby re-commenced her placement after the COVID closure, she quickly became a reliable asset by shadowing other team members, asking questions, taking notes and reading over her notes (at work and at home) to familiarise herself with the requirements of each task,” Emily explained.

“Working only one day a week, Libby wanted to ensure she was able to do what she was required to do with minimal time wasted to keep learning and developing.”

A helping hand

Libby’s role within the People & Performance team sees her take on a variety of different tasks, including the completion of important workers compensation paperwork and liaising with external stakeholders such as doctors and physios. The trainee prides herself on being an extra helping hand to anyone who needs it. This is something she wants to continue doing throughout the remainder of her traineeship.

“I want to be that individual in the People & Performance team that a fellow work member can ask for help and trust that I can get the job task done on time and with quality,” Libby said.

Libby has great support from each of her team members at Council, which has contributed to her achievements so far.

“In the People & Performance team, every member is willing to lend a hand with no issues at all,” she explained.

“Being a part of this team has made my time at Council a great experience and I could not thank the People & Performance team enough for supporting me through my traineeship.”
