New Trainee Embraces Opportunity

04 February 2020

BCD Community Care is a non-profit organisation that provides staff to support older Australians and people with disabilities. The organisation works across South West Sydney, providing services from Fairfield all the way down to the Wingecarribee region.

Liteesha Decelis is the first trainee that BCD has placed through My Gateway and the experience so far for both employee and employer has been a positive one. Liteesha is undertaking her Certificate III in Business Administration and is the receptionist/administration assistant at BCD’s Smeaton Grange office.

“Liteesha picks things up very fast and shows initiative, which given that this is her first office role, is impressive,” said Belinda Fairbairn, BCD’s Recruitment and HR Partner.

“She is very keen to learn new things and always has good input and ideas.”

Liteesha’s traineeship will take one year to complete and while her role will not change too much during that time, Belinda is confident she will learn a wide range of knowledge from different departments.

“Liteesha has been and will continue to assist various departments to give her a wide range of experience as we can,” explained Belinda.

“She is responsible for various tasks that we are slowly expanding on.”

Many young people take on traineeships not necessarily knowing what industry that want to end up working in long-term and that is the case for Liteesha, but she sees this as a positive.

“I believe that it is a good opportunity to further my skills while getting the experience of full-time work,” explained Liteesha.

“Even if I don’t choose to stay in the industry, I have learnt skills that I will need for any job. It also gives me a chance to see if I like this industry.”

In the first few months of her traineeship, Liteesha has improved her phone skills, her ability to use programs such as Microsoft Excel and is growing in confidence as the first point of call when customers visit the office. She is keen to continue developing these skills as the year goes on.

“I hope to keep learning as much as I can throughout the rest of this traineeship,” said Liteesha.
