Careers Expo Season: What You Need To Know

08 July 2019

Careers expo season is well and truly upon us!

There are a number of events coming up that My Gateway is holding or sponsoring, which aim to help many young school leavers and job seekers find the apprenticeships or traineeships of their dreams.

Included in these events are the 2019 Apprenticeship & Traineeship Expos, hosted by Brett Carter Events. My Gateway is proud to be a Gold Sponsor three of these expos – Northern Sydney, South Western Sydney/Macarthur and Western Sydney. Our team of recruitment experts will be on hand at each of these expos to help school leavers, parents and teachers with their apprenticeship and traineeship related questions.

We spoke with Brett Carter himself to get some insight into why these expos are important and what students, teachers and parents can expect on the night.

What can attendees expect at these events?

Whether you are at school and looking for a career path, a parent hoping to give your child the best opportunities in life, a teacher that wants to see their students start-off on the right foot or seeking a career change – the 2019 Apprenticeship and Traineeship Expos have all the answers you need with exhibitors having jobs available now.

Why do you believe it is important for students, teachers/careers advisors and parents to attend these expos?

With the infrastructure boom we are experiencing, the future need for apprentices, trainees and skilled workers has never before been in such high demand. The expos are a fantastic opportunity for students, teachers/careers advisors and parents to be educated on the benefits of an apprenticeship/traineeship in today’s world in comparison to yester year.

What advice do you have for students attending these expos? What advice do you have for their parents/guardians?

Students – come armed with copies of your resume. Leave your contact details. Talk to all exhibitors; don’t narrow your focus, as you never know what opportunities are out there.

Parents/guardians – learn as much as you can. The apprenticeship/traineeship landscape has changed so much since we were kids.

Whilst I would never discourage someone from pursuing further education via a university, hands-on learning opportunities through apprenticeships and traineeships, coupled with a wage, can lead you on the road to success quickly. Not to mention a good pay packet at the completion of your trade.
