Who is My Gateway?

My Gateway has been employing apprentices, trainees and school based apprentices and trainees (SBATs) across Sydney for over 37 years. We place our employees with ‘host businesses’, like your business, to develop their industry skills and experience. My Gateway then looks after all the paperwork, monitoring, course study requirements, workers compensation and performance management.

What are apprenticeships, traineeships and SBATs?

Apprenticeships and traineeships combine paid work with formal training. An apprenticeship typically takes 3-4 years to complete, whereas a traineeship takes 1-2 years to complete. At completion, the apprentice or trainee obtains an industry recognised national qualification.

A school based apprenticeship or traineeship combines paid work, training and school; as well as an industry recognised national qualification that will gain credit towards the HSC.

Each SBAT has a minimum number of workdays required to complete during their HSC years. They must work 1 day per week during their normal school week as well as during school holidays. Depending on the industry you host the SBAT, will determine the minimum requirements of days required to work. This can vary between 100 – 180 days.

Why should I take on an apprentice, trainee or SBAT?

We provide FREE job advertising and free recruitment including interviewing, reference checking and shortlisting candidates.

You only pay for the apprentice and trainee when they are at work or TAFE. You only pay when the SBAT is at work. My Gateway pays all leave days.

We will manage and retain responsibility for payroll, workers compensation, superannuation.

We will undertake a FREE WHS site consultation and assessment of your workplace.

A dedicated My Gateway mentor will visit the worksite regularly and provide ongoing support and feedback to both the supervisor and apprentice, trainee or SBAT.

We ensure the apprentice, trainee or SBAT keeps on track with their studies.

You can return the apprentice, trainee or SBAT back to us if things don’t work out or business slows down.

Your apprentice, trainee or SBAT will have 24/7 access to our free, confidential counselling service to assist with work related and personal issues.

You no longer need to worry about Award changes for your apprentice, trainee or SBAT. When these occur they may affect the charge out rate, however My Gateway will advise you on the impact this may have.

What is my commitment to an apprentice, trainee or SBAT?

To provide practical, industry specific training.

Provide a safe working environment.

Provide appropriate qualified supervision at a level reflective of the apprentice/trainee/SBAT’s level of experience.

Advising your My Gateway mentor if there are issues with the performance or attendance of the apprentice, trainee or SBAT.

During school holidays, allow the SBAT to work additional days so that they meet their minimum 1 day per week requirement.
