Posted in Business Administration General SBAT Schools Traineeships

Congratulations to school based trainee, Chloe Vanderstraaten, on completing her qualification!

Chloe receiving her Certificate III in Business Administration from Svetlana Kuzmar, Traineeship Coordinator & Careers Advisor at Australian Careers Business College.

For the past 18 months, Chloe has undertaken her Certificate III in Business Administration while working one day per week at My Gateway, as part of the School to Work team. Chloe also completed her HSC recently, capping off a challenging but rewarding year for her.

Chloe is the first school based trainee to complete a traineeship since My Gateway launched its program last year. So we thought we would ask her some questions to sum up her experience and how she plans on using her qualification to help her now that she has finished school.

Q&A with Chloe

What have you enjoyed most about your school based traineeship?

I have enjoyed meeting new people as well as learning new skills that will help me in the future. I have enjoyed being a part of a team and having people to support me.

What are some of the key skills you’ve developed that you feel will help you in the next step of your career?

Definitely learning about a business environment, learning how to manage a work load as well as finding time to work on a various types of tasks.

What have been some of the challenges of doing a school based traineeship?

The thing I struggled with was when COVID-19 hit and we were working from work. I was trying to find some motivation to keep going with minimal work to complete. Also, trying to juggle my final year in school from home.

How have you kept focused during the final few months of your traineeship?

Having good colleagues around myself pushing me to do my best, as well as having meaningful work that has motivated me to do my best. Also, knowing I would be receiving my certificate.

How did you find the experience of managing school work along with your traineeship responsibilities?

I would focus on one thing at a time – if you are at school focus on school; if you’re at work focus on work responsibilities.

What is next for you?

Hopefully in the new year, I will start looking for a full-time job. I’m also enjoying life as a young adult and focusing on family.

What advice would you give to other students considering a school based traineeship?

Always reach out, if you have a question ask. Always try your best, don’t give up and focus on one thing at a time.
